After many years of experimenting with CB and shortwave radios Andy was licensed as KB9YKG in 2000 after passing the Technician exam. It was another four years before he got the HF bug and upgraded to a General class ticket. Andy graduated from John A. Logan College in 2001 with a degree in Electronics Technology, and is now a Certified Electronics Technician, and holds a General Radiotelephone Operator License. Andy moved to Plano Texas in 2007 where he now works in the wireless telecommunications field. Shortly after moving to Texas, Andy upgraded to Extra, and was granted the vanity call WA5UP, which he currently holds. Public service and mentoring are where Andy is most active, and he tends to operate mostly HF SSB and PSK31.
