The Plano Amateur Radio Klub (PARK) maintains several radio repeaters colocated with a municiple water tower in Allen, Texas. The tower is on Prestige Circle, east of US 75 and north of Bethany Road. It's coordinates are roughly 33 05' 35.5' north and 96 40'25' west. Two FM voice repeaters are tuned to: 147.180MHz PL=107.2 (WD5ERD) and 444.250MHz PL=79.7 (K5PRK). A DStar repeater with the callsign K5PRK and three RF modules is also active: 70cm 441.575 +5.000 (DV) Port B, 23cm 1295.0000 -20.0000 (DV) Port A and 23cm 1255.0000 (Digital Data). Though all repeaters are open to use by licensed amateur radio operators regardless of club affiliation, there are times when the VHF and UHF voice repeaters are conscripted for use in controlled networks. PARK requests that users of those repeaters listen for the telltale "Roger beep" (tag) broadcast just prior to the release of the transmitter to determine if the repeater is available for unsupervised communications. The "unsupervised" tag is a non-Morse "bubble" tone. If the repeater is in use by a controlled network performing community service, the release tone is a Morse "e"-"n" ( . -.). When the repeater is open for general use but may be conscripted imminently for use in a weather net, the tone is either a Morse "a" (.-) (Which means the NWS has issued a severe "Weather Alert" for the area) or Morse "f" (..-.) (Which signifies a NWS Flash Flood warning has been issued for the area). Controlled emergency networks established by the Collin County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (CCARES) will always use the Morse "n" tag (-.). In the event the repeater you wish to use is employed by a net, please listen for instructions from the net controller. With rare exception, you will be allowed to join the net if you have the ability to contribute positively to the purpose of the net. If you have a life-threatening emergency which is not best served with a 911 call, and a net is in progress, you may break into any net with the prosign "Break-Break". Use of this prosign is regulated by Federal Law and misuse is severely dealt with by the FCC. We hope to hear you operate on our repeaters! |
